Position Description:

PROGRAMMES DEPARTMENT

Programmes manager of Highlands FM Radio heads this department. The title of the officer is Programmes Manager responsible for overseeing production of Radio programmes of the Company. The departmental head is responsible for the day-to-day radio production administration of the Highlands FM Radio.
1. ANSWERABLE
The Programmes Manager is functionally answerable to the Radio Manager.
2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Programmes Manager plays the following roles:
• Ensuring the department produces high quality programmes
• Supervision of programmes presenter’s performances
• Determining on-air and production studios work procedures
• Overseeing collection and processing of news items
• Overseeing outside broadcasting activities
• Overseeing music library activities
• Overseeing production studio activities
• Overseeing staff discipline in general in the department
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining clear lines of responsibility within
the department for all managerial matters.
3. REPORTS
• Daily on-air and production studios reports
• Weekly programmes and production reports
• Monthly and quarterly programmes and production reports
• Departmental monthly quality improvement reports
4. STRUCTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Programmes department comprises four distinct sections, namely, programmes,
news room, music library and production. The structure of the department is as shown
in below.
4.1.1 Programmes
This section is responsible for the following functions
• Planning of daily and weekly programmes schedules
• Planning of weekly, monthly and quarterly programme schedules
• Actual programmes broadcasting
• Monitoring performance of presenters
• Monitoring performance of journalists
• Quality control managements
• Preparation of monthly performance reports
4.1.2 Music Unit
This section is responsible for the following functions
• Planning of musical materials to be ordered or received
• Collection and filing all musical materials
• Posting musical records in official documents
• Establishment of musical library and archives
• Preparation of bi-weekly music received reports
• Preparation of weekly music issues reports
• Preparation of monthly performance reports
4.1.3 News Section
This section is responsible for the following functions
• Collection of daily hard news stories
• Collection of features news stories
• Planning for interviews
• Attending press conferences
• Visiting events areas
• Preparation news bulletins
• Preparation weekly events news programmes
• Preparation of weekly and monthly performance reports
4.1.4 Production Section
This section will be responsible for the following functions:
• Planning daily and weekly production schedules
• Managing productivity
• Planning monthly and quarterly production schedules
• Collection and filing of production orders
• Monitoring production activities
• Quality control managements
• Preparation of monthly performance reports

  • Diploma in related subject (e.g. communications, media /journalism)
  • degree in related subject
Experience
  • 2-years experience working as radio programmes manager in a recognized radio station
  • Experience in managing radio programmes and presenters

  • Experience working with radio stations

  • Experience working with media partners
Knowledge and skills
  • Excellent communications
skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Journalism skills
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian government regulations
Knowledge of key issues that challenging radio programmes in Tanzania
